I recently discovered the work of Australian national treasure, Ken Done. Of course, it was his exuberant use of colour that drew me in, but I do enjoy the way he portrays his native land with such whimsy and naiveté. The Sydney Opera House, sail boats in the harbour, the Great Barrier Reef –– they are all captured with childlike enthusiasm. Magpie at the Opera House is so lovely and humorous, and the salmon pink of this 2004 Beach scene is a colour I adore. Take a look at the bathing suits and silk tops . As Vogue says, “you can hang a Done on your wall or a Done on yourself.”
