in the pinks

June 13, 2018

I love all these tones –– the pinks the rusts the tans and the reds. (I’m picturing rust linen pants and a Marrakech pink silk camisole). It’s not a palette we see nearly enough of. And while we’re here in this room, let’s talk about the sofa. Sleek, and yet lived in –– totally cool.

résidence royale

June 11, 2018

This is grand, very grand. Both regal and spartan, at the same time. I love the treatment of the walls, and the beautiful aqua paint colour. The floors were made to plié, chassé, jeté on. And the bed, the bed was made to be royal on.

I can’t imagine decorating with animal print –– it’s not my thing –– but a mix of leopard with white linens and Peruvian stripes, I can get behind. I love how she’s substituted a headboard for milagros. It’s a fun little room –– makes me curious to see the rest of the house.

Cinzano hour

June 5, 2018

This is my kind of cocktail hour. Rich jewel tones, wild, whimsical flowers and bottles of Italian vermouth. Give me a room full of people to watch, and I could sit at this bar for hours. If anyone knows where it is, tell me, and I’ll meet you there.

British made

June 4, 2018

Just look at the marvelous kitchen of British garden designer, Butter Wakefield, a total departure from the ultra modern one I posted Friday. I love the back wall of vintage plates, botanical drawings and bud vases. What a lovely place to nosh on ham and cheese croissants and country breads slathered in jam.  Have a walk around the whole house –– so charming, so colourful, so English.

j’adore decor

June 1, 2018

I really like the work of Aussie interior design duo, Juliette Arent and Sarah Jane Pyke. Their spaces are warm, eclectic and colour rich. Look at The Alex Hotel in Perth –– it’s one quirky, colourful detail after another. All the brass, warm wood and bright white at Curational House is stunning. And I’m in love with the kitchen over at Treetop House.

retro, baby

June 1, 2018

It was this brick velvet armchair that drew me in. But there are plenty of pieces at Les Eines, a Barcelona based store specializing in vintage decor from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, that I’d happily live with. From offbeat tables and chairs, to quirky teapots, trays and vases, the owner, Giorgia Righetti clearly has great taste. Have a look around. You may be needing a new chair or two.

Swedish made

May 25, 2018

Here’s to checkerboard floors, gingham curtains and fresh basil in handmade pots. I love this little Swedish kitchen, so charming and bright. The wallpaper, with its palm trees and sailboats is pure holiday.

boudoir

May 23, 2018

Look at this beautiful bedroom suite designed by L.A. decor wizard, Mark D. Sykes. From the chinoiserie wallpaper to the tented ceiling, it’s all so rich and sumptuous. The linens, with their perfect scalloped edges, are divine. So are the Vladimir Kanevsky porcelain flowers. I’ll stay for a day or two, if I must.

chaise athena

May 18, 2018

A pink chaise is a little dream of mine, and this one is pretty much perfection. I think I’d dress for the occasion, in a vintage kimono or a pair of high thread count pajamas, perhaps. And I’d need a stack of beautiful magazines, and a mint julep in a coupe. Can’t you picture it all?
