bed Mates

October 18, 2016

Separate bedrooms, no –– but separate beds, why not? This divine set up at the Luchino Visconti room at the Grand Hotel et de Milan will do nicely. A pair of vintage ormalu-decorated beds and the covers all to myself, si grazie.

Mixer

October 17, 2016

Artist and stylist, Kate Schelter’s Manhattan apartment is a charming mix of fabric, light and whimsy. I adore the poppies, anemones and dahlias scattered about the place, and her picture walls of fine art, photography and humour are so well done. Plus, any room that mixes stripes, dalmation spots and Schiaparelli pink is my kind of room.

Light on

September 26, 2016

I was talking to an old school friend of mine last week, a textile designer who works in a disused greenhouse adjacent to her family home in Florence. It’s a stunning space, full of light and colour, both of which are inspiring to me. And then I happened upon images of this room that with its high ceilings, huge windows and pops of gorgeous colour, reminded me of Margherita’s greenhouse studio. You can see the entire Paris apartment here, built at the same time as the Eiffel Tower, and given new life by architects Yann Le Chadic and Alessandro Scotto. It’s all kinds of wonderful.

A Space

September 16, 2016

And there you have it, a space that ticks all the boxes. Pink ladyfingers, check. Mid-century teak, check. Leafy palms, check. Mermaid pool, check. Light, white, check.

Splash of colour

September 12, 2016

I painted my toes a deep red-coral on Saturday, and snapped up a rug for the bathroom in the brightest turquoise, too. I can’t tell you how pleasing it is to look down at my bare feet on the bathroom floor. The colour combination is stellar.

plastic fantastic

September 9, 2016

I’m often on the lookout for stool options for our kitchen table. The juxtaposition of these low brow plastic cups with fancy gilded doors, delicate sconces and an industrial table amuses me. I’m not sure how comfortable they are on the derriere, but for quick breakfasts and casual suppers, I think this is a fun little stool. Cincin!

Pool Time

September 7, 2016

The salt water pool at my local community centre has re-opened after a massive renovation, and I can’t wait to put on my frilly cap and dive in. The water will be bracingly cold this week, but with hot days like these, who needs tepid water. In the meantime, I’m still dreaming of my own piscine –– big enough for a pool party, and small enough that one mermaid makes a splash.

Go Green

August 30, 2016

When my great friend Zelmira moved to New York with her husband Patrik, they painted their bedroom green like a Granny Smith apple. Sparkling green is a glorious colour to wake up to. I also rather like sage green cabinets in the kitchen, and punchy green tiles in the bathroom. This gorgeous chateau, restored by Isabelle and Hubert Dubois-Dumée, has bright pops of green throughout. These fabulous doors are an exact colour match to Zel and Patrik’s big apple room.

all that glitters

August 29, 2016

I don’t think it would be possible to wear this dress and not feel like a fairy princess. I’d like to wear it to the supermarket, out to dinner or on my tooth-fairy rounds, with a baseball cap and a pair of Saint Laurent trainers.

table Top

August 24, 2016

Tablecloths that could be skirts and skirts that could be tablecloths. I rarely use a tablecloth at home, much like I rarely bring out fabric napkins. But what a difference it makes when I do. Here’s to late summer suppers on gorgeous linens.
