silk

March 27, 2018

I would never pull off a dress like this –– it’s far too flouncy and voluminous for my height. But I do adore it. The fabric looks like Alexis Colby’s bed sheets, and I love the way it gets all whipped up like milk. The soft apricot is delicious –– it’s all quite lovely, really.

Cali girls

March 22, 2018

I love the latest boho looks over at Dôen. Dôen is designed and produced in California by a collective of eight women. Think cozy, cable knit jumpers, romantic, flouncy blouses and flowy dresses roomy enough for a pregnant belly. Have a look, it’s all very California Dreaming.

glove compartment

March 12, 2018

Between the clay, cold and chlorine, my hands are looking 150-years-old. And I never wear gloves which is just silly. But I came across these today, handmade by Kristi Jõeste, and I want a pair. These fringed ones, inspired by the traditional wedding gloves worn by men from the island of Saaremaa (the largest island in Estonia) are fabulous. And just what my ancient hands need.

dress to spring

March 9, 2018

Here’s a pretty dress, in a delightful shade of pink, that begs to be worn this Spring. In fact, I like so many of the frocks in this latest No. 6 collection. Like this floral number with its balloon sleeves. Pink crushed velvet reminds me of my teen years, and I love the colour of this silk trapeze dress. Take a look at the jumpsuits, too. This black and white check is dizzyingly good.

poofy couture

February 28, 2018

Pure frivolity today in the form of Valentino couture. When the sleeves are this poofy, and the bow is this big, you have no choice but to feel like an Empress. This is what I’d wear to greet dignitaries and dance waltzes. With a pair of kick ass trainers.

sunny side up

February 23, 2018

My favourite Peony moment is a day or two before it loses its petals, when its wide open, and truly glorious. These ones here look like big, beautiful fried eggs. I’m not sure what these marigold pompoms are, but I love them. This is just the sort of wild and whimsical arrangement that I get excited about.

flash flower

February 15, 2018

I love this scene created by New York flower bandit, Lewis Miller. You may have seen his floral installations before. This one was created for Valentine’s Day using pink carnations from Tory Burch’s Fall ’18 runway show. She brought in 14,000 of them –– just imagine it! And that piles of them made it to the street where anyone and everyone could enjoy them. What a beautiful way to spread the love.

if this dress could talk

February 12, 2018

I came across this photograph today of French artist, Fernand Leger in his Paris studio with British model Anne Gunning, and all I could think about was how fabulously well Gunning’s dress blends in with Leger’s paintings. It was shot for LIFE magazine in 1955, just weeks before Leger died. The dress was designed by Claire McCardell, who until today I had embarrassingly never heard of. “We look at her as the founder of democratic American fashion,” said Valerie Steele, director of the F.I.T. museum. “McCardell spoke often and passionately about a need for clothes that fit an American woman’s life style and athletic carriage,” wrote the New York Times. “The sashes and wide, soft leather belts, which she said were inspired by kimonos or girdle belts worn by the ancient Greeks, were to avoid zippers and buttons.” Modern designers from Anna Sui to Cynthia Rowley owe much to McCardell. This dress is a dream –– a walking work of art.

let them eat cake

February 9, 2018

I don’t usually wear sorbet colours, but today I was in a lemon yellow cardi and a watermelon pink scarf, and I felt like a walking gelato. I love Kirsten Dunst’s wardrobe in Marie Antoinette –– and this particular dress is a very grand version of me today. I just need bows and bigger hair.

tinsel town

February 5, 2018

What fun on a dreary Monday morning, to come across Rachel Burke’s jackets, all fashioned from shiny, high wattage tinsel. Each one is custom made-to-order using up-cycled jacket bases. Burke’s clients include Tavi Gevinson, Petra Collins and Lorde. I kind of want one in metallic pink. Just imagine the possibilities that unfold when wearing a tinsel cape.
