If you’re off to any parties this weekend, please be sure to wear a ribbon or two. Nothing says festive like a red velvet bow. Macarons are lovely, but the very best hostess gift is a witty and stylish guest.

I rarely wear big baubles on my ears, but these mobile danglers designed by Jessica Winzelberg are just my style. I love the wonderfully unexpected mix of gemstones, such as tiger’s eye, jade and aventurine or sodalite, jasper and lapis. I like these malachite beauties, too. There’s something very retro and chic about them. Yes, Santa –– I’ll take a pair in any colour you choose for me.
I’ve worn the same full length, letterbox red Canada Goose coat for years. It’s splattered with gouache from an outdoor painting session which only makes me love it more. That said, there are days when I’d rather not turn up to dinner in a duvet. Enter the UNIQLO base puffer. It’s warm and ultra fine and slips easily under any winter coat. This navy one would look super cool under my wool pink coat, but I rather like the idea of a sleeveless one in orange, too. Come Spring and early Fall, it’ll be the stand alone jacket that every girl needs.

I was in search of a brooch a few weeks ago, and much to my dismay all I found in my bijoux drawer, was a tiny gold safety pin. It reminded me how we all we need at least one gorgeous brooch to pin to a beret, the collar of a chic silk blouse, or in my case, to fasten a button-less coat with. This Lulu Frost is an upgrade on my safety pin, and I’d take any of the vintage charmers below.
It’s taken all my life, but I’ve finally found a lipstick I love. It’s called Marilyn by Gee, and it’s a gorgeous coral red. I’ve worn it out to dinner, on the school run, to my pottery class, and even in the pool. Amazingly, it stayed on in the water. I felt like the women in my aquafit class who wear red lips, a frilly cap and a diamond ring to take a dip. When you don’t wear makeup, lipstick (especially a bold one) really does give your face a lift. My Mum never leaves home without it. I may now do the same.
I very nearly bought a bow for my hair today, but it looked ridiculous in my top knot, and I’m too grownup for school girl accessories. An oversized bow, in black satin, I would wear. Yes, that feels feminine, playful and chic. It’s funny how a bigger bow makes a statement I’m comfortable with.

If a Greek goddess, say Artemis or Aphrodite, went to the Oscars, this is what she’d wear. Lauren Hutton (at the Academy Awards in 1975) in this rainbow goddess style Halston dress is pretty damn dreamy. The fur stole adds a wham of glamour. Not that this goddess ever needed it.

Here’s my idea of winter whites. I love this look from Brooklyn based knitwear designer, Lauren Manoogian. It’s very Audrey Hepburn, no? Sustainable, minimal and ethically produced, Manoognian’s pieces blend effortlessly into any wardrobe. The capote coat is kind of perfect for layering, as is the gorgeously chunky beuys cardigan. My winter wish list just got longer.
Is it too soon to fantasize about a feathery headpiece for summer? At a glance, this one from Gucci SS 18 looked like a fabulous retro swimming cap. And then I realized it was all feathers and mesh. It’s a lot to pull off, I know. But in the right mood, I think I could do it, without looking too much like Carmen Miranda meets Big Bird.
Oh yes, to pants with pleats that button up around your belly button! These trousers are kind of perfect, comfortable and sexy and perfect with flats and a simple white tee.
