flower power

Anyone who knows me knows how bonkers I am about fresh blooms. Our rental apartment is minutes away from the flower markets at Avenue and Davenport which means I make too many jaunts there. I love arranging flowers, and I love coming home to them. My dream is to one day have a garden so abundant with flowers that there are plenty to spare for the indoors. Fresh cut roses or dhalias from one’s own garden feels so decadent. This combination of fruits, blossoms, lilies and poppies is really lovely.

I try not to look to closely at the drains, or at people’s feet, or the floating plasters and leaky nostrils while I swim. One can’t think too much about the idea of a dozen almost naked bodies sharing a large, be it chlorinated, bath tub. I love my swims. I love the feeling of having swum. I like to hum underwater. And problem solve. And design pots. And have imaginary talks with people. Just don’t show me a clump of hair.

Just look at this 16 layered Russian honey cake! I love anything with honey on it, and this one is bourbon infused for punch. Cakes like these takes hours to make, and while I know I never will, I can imagine some of my remarkable baker friends whipping this up for afternoon tea. The cake keeps for up to three months if frozen, so that’s a lot of afternoon teas.
