brun

October 8, 2021

I haven’t worn brown since I was 17 ish and all my favourite clothes were the colour of tree bark. I had a long velvet Jigsaw coat that I wore with everything, and a French Connection cardigan that looked like it belonged it to a wooly mammal. There were hits of caramel and aubergine, but brown was the main event. Fast forward a few decades, and I’m kind of into the sepia, carob and cedar of Gembalies latest collection. Minus the drop crotch pants that I wouldn’t have known what to do with, my 17-year-old self would have wanted everything in this collection. Chocolate brown sweater complete with insouciant 90’s rip. Oh, yes.

stripe effect

September 24, 2021

I couldn’t decide between the pink on red stripes or the green on blue ones, and so I bought both. There’s something a little thrilling about buying a sweater in September; with it comes flashes of steaming hot tea, bangers and mash, and chilly walks on leaf littered streets. It won’t be long before my sweaters are bobbling from too much wear and I’m desperate for caftan weather. But today, on this most chilly September day, I’m embracing my new jumper. I may just wear both.

latvia, love

September 17, 2021

If it’s beautifully made, earth friendly linens in all shades of stone that you’re after, have a look at RIIJA, a line of homewares from Latvia. The style is minimal, with a nod to Latvian ancestry. Think lace edged tablecloths and blankets with a traditional Lielvārde belt pattern. I’m after a pair of sheep wool slippers in grey or cream; perfect for when the days get cooler.

modern weave

September 17, 2021

Stephanie Schneider‘s delicate pieces are a weave of mohair, silk and linen with silver and gold. Textiles meet jewellery in each unique necklace, bracelet and ring. Tiny pearls adorn one exquisite bracelet and another one is a mix of red silk and oxidized metal. These are modern heirlooms, to be passed down for generations.

trifecta

September 13, 2021

I keep coming back to this fabulous pairing of colours from Valentino’s Spring 2019 couture. Imagine two people who you never would have pegged as a couple meeting, falling in love, and living happily ever after. That’s how I feel about pink and tobacco. They’re unexpectedly fabulous together. Now, if said duo were to have a bébé she’d be aqua, et voilà, fait accompli.

flora and fauna

August 25, 2021

Anna Farba’s botanical illustrations are delightful. Her berries, flower petals, leafy greens and insects bring whimsy and wonder to walls, packaging, rugs, blankets and mugs. I really like Farba’s vegetable and medicinal plant posters –– the radishes are my favourite –– and I can see myself wearing this blooming cotton thistle on the daily. Have a look at her Instagram page; I’m potty about this recent palm tree chart!
