ole

January 4, 2019

I love this 1952 photograph by Cecil Beaton of Luis Miguel Dominguín. It’s such a beautiful portrait. Of course, my first thought when I saw the image, was that this would have been my dream New Year’s Eve outfit! I doubt I’d have pulled it off with anywhere near his aplomb, but what fun to go to a party dressed as a matador.

she sells, sea shells

December 27, 2018

My cousin’s engagement ring was designed around a small shell that she and her husband found on the beach one day. He’s given her more splendid rings since, but I imagine she treasures that one the most. I really like a mix of natural shell and metal in jewellery, I think it makes for an interesting juxtaposition. Luiny is a company that uses various shells and pearls in their designs, like these striking earrings. I kind of love these ones, too.

red stripe

December 27, 2018

I firmly believe, and not just because it’s Christmastime, that candy cane stripes are a must in every wardrobe. There’s a playfulness, a sense of humour, to red and white stripes. I’m pretty into this cashmere tracksuit from Madeleine Thompson. It’s over-the-top for a jaunt to the gym, which is why I’d wear it out to dinner. With a top knot and flats. Because, why not?

pearl white

December 27, 2018

I’ve seen this image on my travels several times, but I’ve never found the designer who makes this grand bijoux. I can see it on my little finger, a planet for my pinky, and I love the way it’s paired with winter whites. Please someone holler, if they find its maker. It really is a show stopper.

fancy dress

December 21, 2018

Some people swoon at the sight of a beautifully stacked book shelf, others get excited when they see artichokes with plump heads. For me, it’s dresses, exquisite, dreamy ones, that send me to my land of fancy. These two frocks, Christian Dior Couture, (SS17) are pure fantasy. The tulle neck and barely-there-pink sash; the perfect applique of flowers. I love how the bird, and nest of bees and flowers look like they’ve sprung from the model’s curls. Everything about this is so romantic and theatrical. Just to know that such dresses exist makes me happy.

monochrome

December 14, 2018

I like the idea of wearing various shades of the same colour from top-to-bottom. Some colours –– black, white, navy, grey –– are easier than others. Mustard, orange, racing green, now that’s a challenge. I wear a lot of pink, all together, all the time. It never feels too much, even when it probably is. I love this monochromatic vermilion look ––  it’s fresh, fun and daring. And of course, one can never go wrong with denim blue.

80s, baby

December 13, 2018

The most recent collection from Dodo Bar Or feels like a modern riff on the 80s. I can see Alexis Colby in any one of these numbers. This jacquard top in marshmallow pink would be dream to wear over jeans or black palazzo pants, and this velvet jumpsuit with puffed shoulders is pure drama. It’s all so luxe compared to the label’s signature peasant tops and frocks, but I like both in equal measure.

white collar

December 7, 2018

I seem to be amassing a lovely collection of white shirts, some structured, some blouse-y, but each one easy to throw on over a pair of Khakis. This beauty from sustainable NYC label, Cienne is high on my wish list. It’s chic, sexy and just a little left of centre. Trifecta! Now, to keep it free of grubby fingerprints and pasta sauce. Unlikely.

here comes the bride

December 5, 2018

Maybe it’s because I’ve watched too much This Is Us, and feel like Rebecca is both my friend and Mum, but I was really moved by Mandy Moore’s wedding photos this past week. She looked like a fairytale bride in that candyfloss pink Erdem frock. Her veil had a childlike nostalgia to it, in that it looked like something a little girl might fashion herself. And the baby’s breath laced through her hair, was so soft and romantic looking. Oh, mandy!

a wool like no other

November 28, 2018

Once you’ve worn cashmere, not even merino will do. I’m kidding, (sort of). I like the idea of a full romper spun entirely from Mogolian cashmere. My winter uniform. And this cashmere sweater/skirt set from Adam Lippes looks lovely and decadent, too. Good knitwear makes winter bearable.
